Structural Fabrications Ltd was commissioned to deliver the design, fabrication and installation of the house’s main steelwork as part of the build. The property’s steelwork was painted and installed by Structural Fabrications Ltd’s project team using a GGR Spider Crane.

Grand Designs, presented by TV personality Kevin McCloud, follows some of Britain’s most ambitious self-building projects, as intrepid individuals attempt to design and construct the home of their dreams.

The property is based at a site in rural Derbyshire and the owner selected Structural Fabrications Ltd to deliver the structural steelwork due to the firm’s vast experience in the construction and housebuilding sectors and its strong track record of project management and delivery.

The property was selected to appear on Channel 4’s Grand Designs due to its unique location, in a conservation area with protected status.

The building has been designed to be ‘passive’, meaning it meets a voluntary standard for energy efficiency, reducing the building’s ecological footprint. Passive builds create ultra-low energy houses that require little energy for space heating or cooling.
