Client: OMYA UK
Design, fabrication, galvanisation and installation of new access stairs to top of existing silo
Structural Fabrications Ltd was contracted to provide the survey, modelling, design, fabrication, galvanisation and installation of new access stairs to the top of an existing 19m high silo at OMYA UK’s facility in Hartlepool.
The new access stairs consisted of two link platforms, two access platforms around the existing bucket elevator and screw feed conveyers and one new 500kg swing jib. The project team completed all works to CE Class 2 standards.
The project included a full site survey to measure all existing silo, bucket elevators, existing platform levels and existing screw feed conveyers.
To support the project a full 3D model was produced by Structural Fabrications Ltd’s project team using Tekla Structures to estimate the required steel section and size. Existing structures and items were also added where applicable.
GA drawings were completed from the model and then sent for design approval. This included all steelwork with proposed connections added.
Design calculations were issued with any required revisions made in the model to suit these. GA revisions were also completed and issued to the client for approval.
Following client approval all materials were purchased, and full fabrication drawings completed. The project team then completed fabrication and galvanising works.
Full method statements and risk assessments were submitted, including crane lift plans.
Finally, the site installation was delivered using CPA crane hire.
